‘Bob’s Burgers Cross Section’ by Alex Gabott (2012)

I’ve long been a fan of the aptly named ‘Incredible Cross-Section‘ books of Star Wars, Indiana Jones, James Bond, and Batman. All of these pop-culture icons justify those intricate, hand-drawn tributes to their incredible design. However, in the last few years, there haven’t really been any new cross section books published. Add to that, the very real lack of any cult, or niche cross sections being made recently…well, it made me a little sad, I’ll be honest.
So, I figured…I’ll fill that gap.
To begin; a cross section illustration from the FOX animated show ‘Bob’s Burgers‘. Why ‘Bob’s Burgers’?
Because it’s awesome.
Fun Facts!
- This took over 150 hours. (including 13 hours of inking)
- There are over 650 layers. Basically, one for every colour, one for every outline, one for every highlight, and one for every shadow.
- The photoshop file was so big, it literally broke my computer. It’s now under repair at the Apple Store.
- Watercolour textures were from Lost and Taken (they’re awesome!)
Stay connected to hear of the next cross section…one from Valve’s Portal video game series. The preliminary sketch I’ve done looks pretty damn great.
Behind the scenes photos can be seen here! Well, not here, but when you click this link.
